Volunteering

Over 6 million people give one billion hours to sport through volunteering every year. From teenagers to parents, graduates to retired people, anyone can get involved in supporting their local sports club - you don't even need knowledge of sport! Many non-technical roles exist, for example, creating websites, writing match reports, managing and generating funds and catering as well as many more.

Here are just some of the reasons why you could get involved:

  • You can meet lots of new people that are interested in the same sport as you.
  • You can gain experience, confidence and new skills that employers will value.
  • Volunteering opens doors for personal training and development should you want it.
  • Volunteer experience and awards look great on your CV, and can help you stand out when applying for college, university or a job.
  • Volunteering may help you keep fit and active, and give you a great sense of achievement.

You can also contact your local Volunteer Centres - the place to find out about volunteering opportunities in your area. They can offer you a free, confidential and informal appointment where advisers can provide information and guidance on any aspect of volunteering. Advisers take the time to discuss your interests, likes and dislikes, and availability before suggesting some opportunities that might appeal to you.
