STARS OF ESSEX SPORTS SCENE HONOURED AT AWARDS 8th November 2007 Key members of the county's sports scene were celebrating last night after scooping accolades at the glittering 2007 Essex Sports Awards in Chelmsford. Over 200 attendees at the awards ceremony saw winners and shortlisted nominees from all corners of the county collect a variety of awards that included those for athletic achievement, future potential, coaching prowess and behind-the scene heroics. Nominees heralded from Loughton to Canvey Island and from Braintree to Tendring. The Essex Sports Awards, hosted by sportessex, celebrate and recognise the very best in sport in Essex and those people who participate, support its provision and invest personally in its ongoing development. The 2007 awards ceremony follows the successful inaugural Essex Sports Awards last year, and similar awards take place across the East of England and around the country. Angela Littlewood, director of sportessex, said: "It has been one of the most successful years ever for sport in Essex, a year in which real progress has been made at all levels of sport in terms of facilities, coaching, participation and co-ordination. I'd like to congratulate all the award winners and nominees for their achievements, and would also like to say a great big thank you to every single participant, every club member, every volunteer, to everyone involved in sport in the county. Their efforts are key to what we achieve together." Chris Perks, director for Sport England East, said: "Thousands of people in Essex and across the region play crucial roles day in, day out, by participating, investing, volunteering and coaching in sport, and they tell us repeatedly that it is extraordinarily rewarding. I hope this celebration encourages more people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved and enjoy the benefits sport can offer, from an active, healthy lifestyle to a more inclusive society and greater community cohesion." Angela Littlewood added: "I would like to thank all of the sponsors of our awards for their generosity, without which this ceremony would not have been possible. Their support of our awards reflects the crucial support so many organisations give to sport in Essex throughout the year." Press Articles |
